Writer blog, author blog, self-publishers blog, children's book blog by Taneeka Bourgeois-daSilvaWelcome to my blog! This is where you find writing and educational tools to help kickstart your writing career. I am an award-winning author, teacher, blogger, and entrepreneur. I am the author of the new children’s book series, Little Kids, Big Voices.

My first book, Broccoli Chronicles won the 2015 National Indie Excellence Award in Children’s Fiction, Honorable Mention in Foreword Reviews’ 2014 ‪INDIEFAB‬ Book of the Year Awards for Juvenile Fiction, and silver place for the 2015 Moonbeam Children’s Book Award for Juvenile Fiction! My articles, “Try, Try Again” and “Feedback That’s Fulfilling” were both published in IBPA’s Independent Magazine.

With six years’ writing experience and over ten years’ experience as an English teacher, I continue to provide educational and writing tips to parents and aspiring writers through my blog and social media.

In 2008, I started TCD Kids Foundation, a non-profit organization that offers tutoring, mentoring, service learning, community-based projects, supplementary curriculum, and more to youth. In 2011, I started Building Voices, an independent publishing company that specializes in children’s fiction in efforts to encourage, entertain, and motivate children around the world through reading.

I have taken several creative writing courses through the UCLA Extension Writers’ Program, and with two Master’s Degrees under my belt, I am considered an expert in my field. I have several profile pages including Goodreads and LibraryThing, and am a member of SCBWI and IBPA. Lastly, I am an Educational Consultant for Educatext and have an Administrative Credential which validates my role as an educational leader.

In my spare time, I love reading and writing children’s books, primarily easy readers and chapter books. I also enjoy volunteering at my church and giving back to the community. I am a big advocate for reading and writing and believe that the voices of children should be nurtured.

I am a graduate of Chapman University and currently reside in Los Angeles, CA with my husband, our daughter, and our Yorkshire Terrier, Sebastian.
